Privacy Policy
Plain English Summary
- We do not require you to create an account or provide your name or email address to use PlaylistBridge.
- We do not host, store, or stream any music or audio content on our servers.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party.
- We use Firebase (Google) to store anonymous community playlists and usage counters only.
- We use the YouTube IFrame API to enable InstantPlay — YouTube's own privacy policy governs that interaction.
- We do not currently display third-party advertisements. If we introduce advertising in the future, this policy will be updated and users will be notified.
1. Who We Are
PlaylistBridge ("we", "us", "our") is a free web application available at playlistbridge.netlify.app. PlaylistBridge is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Spotify, YouTube, Google, Apple Music, or any music streaming platform.
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, you can contact us at the details provided in Section 11.
2. What Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
PlaylistBridge does not require registration or an account. We do not ask for your name, email address, or any personally identifying information to use the core features of the service.
When you use the Feedback feature, you voluntarily submit a star rating and optional written feedback. This is sent to us via a Netlify serverless function and may be stored for product improvement purposes.
When you use the Community Playlist feature, the list of song titles you submit is stored anonymously in our Firebase database. No name, email, or account is attached to community submissions.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, certain technical information is collected automatically when you visit PlaylistBridge:
- Log data: Your browser type, device type, referring URL, and pages visited may be recorded by our hosting provider (Netlify) in standard server logs.
- Local storage: We use your browser's localStorage to save your most recent playlist session so you can resume it ("Listen Again" feature). This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
- Cookies: PlaylistBridge itself does not set first-party tracking cookies. However, third-party services embedded in PlaylistBridge (YouTube, Firebase) may set their own cookies as described in Section 4.
Information we do NOT collect
- We do not collect or store your Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, or any streaming service credentials.
- We do not record, copy, or store the actual audio or video content you play via the YouTube player.
- We do not build personal profiles or track individual users across sessions.
3. How We Use Your Information
| Purpose | Legal Basis | Data Used |
|---|---|---|
| Providing the playlist conversion service | Legitimate interest / Service delivery | Song list text you paste (processed in-session only) |
| Displaying community playlists | Legitimate interest | Anonymised song lists stored in Firebase |
| Improving the service via feedback | Consent (voluntary submission) | Star rating + optional written feedback |
| Counting total playlists generated (aggregate counter) | Legitimate interest | Increment only — no user data attached |
| Hosting and security (Netlify) | Legitimate interest | Standard server access logs |
4. Third-Party Services & Cookies
PlaylistBridge integrates the following third-party services. Each of these services has its own privacy policy and cookie practices, which we do not control.
Advertising (Future)
PlaylistBridge does not currently display third-party advertisements. We do not currently use Google AdSense or any other advertising network.
If we introduce advertising in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated prior to any ads being shown to disclose: which advertising network is used, what cookies or tracking technologies are involved, and how users can opt out of personalised advertising. We will not introduce advertising without first updating this policy.
YouTube IFrame API (InstantPlay)
The InstantPlay feature embeds YouTube videos via the YouTube IFrame API. When you use InstantPlay, YouTube may set cookies on your device and may collect data including your IP address and playback activity in accordance with Google's privacy policy. PlaylistBridge does not receive or store data from YouTube playback sessions.
Important: PlaylistBridge does not host, store, serve, or stream any music or audio files. All audio and video playback is provided directly by YouTube. PlaylistBridge merely links to and embeds publicly available YouTube content.
Firebase (Google Cloud Firestore)
We use Google Firebase Firestore to store anonymous community playlists, usage counters, and a cache of YouTube video IDs. Firebase may collect technical data such as IP addresses and device information as part of its standard operation. Community playlist data is stored without any personally identifying information. Firebase's privacy practices are governed by Google's privacy policy.
iTunes Search API (Apple)
We use Apple's iTunes Search API to look up song metadata (title, artist, artwork) for the tracks you paste. When you submit a song list, the track names are sent to Apple's servers for matching purposes. Apple's privacy policy governs this interaction. We do not store your queries beyond what is needed to complete the lookup.
Netlify (Hosting)
PlaylistBridge is hosted on Netlify. Netlify collects standard web server access logs including IP addresses, browser types, and page requests for security and operational purposes. Netlify's privacy policy is available at: netlify.com/privacy
Google Fonts
We load fonts from Google Fonts. Google may log the request including your IP address. Google's privacy policy governs this interaction.
5. Music Content — What We Do and Don't Do
PlaylistBridge does not host, store, distribute, or stream any music, audio files, or video files. We are a link generation and metadata lookup tool only.
When you use InstantPlay, audio is streamed directly from YouTube's servers under YouTube's terms of service. PlaylistBridge embeds the YouTube player in the same way any website can embed a publicly available YouTube video. We do not download, copy, or re-host YouTube content.
The search links we generate direct you to the official Spotify, YouTube Music, and YouTube platforms. PlaylistBridge has no affiliation with these platforms and does not access them on your behalf.
No copyrighted audio or video content is stored on PlaylistBridge's servers at any time.
6. Data Retention
- Song lists you paste: Processed in-session in your browser only. Not stored on our servers unless you explicitly use the Community Playlist publish feature.
- Community playlists: Stored indefinitely in Firebase until removed by us during routine maintenance.
- Feedback submissions: Retained for up to 12 months for product improvement, then deleted.
- Server logs (Netlify): Retained per Netlify's standard data retention policy (typically 30 days).
- Browser localStorage: Stored on your device only. You can clear it at any time via your browser settings. It is never transmitted to our servers.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data.
- Right to object: Object to processing of your data for certain purposes, including direct marketing.
- Right to opt out of personalised ads: See the opt-out links in Section 4.
Because PlaylistBridge does not collect personally identifying information during normal use, we typically cannot identify individual users. If you submitted feedback or a community playlist and wish it removed, please contact us via the details in Section 11 and we will action it promptly.
For GDPR requests (EU/UK residents), we aim to respond within 30 days. For CCPA requests (California residents), we aim to respond within 45 days.
8. Children's Privacy
PlaylistBridge is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Security
PlaylistBridge is served over HTTPS. We use Netlify's infrastructure, which maintains industry-standard security practices. Firebase data is secured via Firestore security rules.
However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of data transmitted to or from our service.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of PlaylistBridge after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
